waistline

well i decide to tear out all the bias tape and start over. my mom gave me a good tip to do it and it worked great. you open up the tape and pin down to one edge and sew.

you can then fold the whole thing over and sew it down. yeah...i know sewing it twice, but it worked and i had no problems at all with it :)
i finished off the waistline with a look and hook closure, i'm not sure i'm happy with it but it will do for now.
next i will be putting trim anround the seam (where the 2 fabrics are sewn together).

bias tape, dastardly stuff eeerrrrrr

ok....last night i was working in the bias tape waistband, eeerrrrrr. i struggle with bias tape, always. well i thought i had gotten it on right, but i didn't and had to rip some of it out, dang it.

if any one has hints on how to do bias tape i would live to hear them......
tonight i will be trying it again.

august POM

in one of my forums they do a project of the month highlighting the progress of a member's current project. this month is my month. i'm very excited and decide to track my progress here also. i am making a skirt from material my grandma in law gave me.

here are my materials

this is after the ruffle on the bottom was added.

the zipper, it was a lot easier to do than i thought :)

the side seams are done!

well tonight i will do more work on it. i will be working on the bias tape waist band.

back pocket purse

i got these jeans at goodwill and wore them for a while, then decided i really didn't like them. i tried to sell them at a garage sale, but no takers. so this is what i did with them so far.
okey here is a purse that i made from some instructions on line.

first i cut the back pockets off a pair of jeans. i did add a 3/4 inch seam allowance, ya know, for seams.

amazingly i had the perfect size and color of zipper lying around (unbelievable!!). the right sides are pinned together. then i sewed it.

i did it to both pockets. now they are attached at the tops by the zipper.

i sewed the pockets together around the sides and bottom. in the seam on the side i did add a handle (a piece of seam from the jeans). if you look close there is pins holding the flap down, i did attach buttons on both sides to hold the flaps closed.

very cute, too bad i don't carry little purses around. it is just the right size for a cell phone, an i-pod, maybe a lipstick and pack of gum....who knows but at least i get to put it in the done pile. :)

the front pockets of these jeans are cute too, i guess i'll make a front pocket purse too. i wonder how many things i can make from one pair of jeans??
